mutya20141 Right from the announcement of Official Candidates of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014, it became quite evident that three ladies in particular will serve as the tentpoles of this batch – the contenders many pageant fans expect to take the steering wheel and drive the competition to brighter heights. But can they really live up to the hype?

As far as Patrizia Lucia Bosco is concerned, getting the Darling of the Press award during the Presentation could be a good sign of things to come, following the logic “If the media coverage people are giving their halo of consideration, then she must really be special.” And her mentor John dela Vega could be laughing all the way to the throne that her gorgeous ward has not been “swayed” by another camp.

And Glennifer Perido? If pageant experience is to be used as the barometer for success, then she already has it in the bag. There is simply no way that this girl from the Cordilleras will allow others to outshine her moment. And she knows how to play the game, hook-line-and sinker.

Then there is Cristine Cheeny Racel – the fair-skinned Olongapo native who many initially thought would fight for Miss World Philippines 2014 instead. There is a very confident vibe in this lady, especially that she has already represented the Philippines in the international pageant stage a couple of years back.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the best Mutya of all?

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the best Mutya of all?

Will this troika of “Mutyas” sweep the competition and deny the wide-eyed first-timers and enthusiastic overseas bets a chance to even get a striking distance to the crown? It’s really all up to Patrizia, Glennifer and Cristine. As the popular line goes, “the crown is theirs to lose“. ;-)

mutya20141 In what could be also called a presentation of the latest collection of Designer (and Mutya prime mover) Renee Salud, the thirty (30) Official Candidates of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 walked down the stage of the Nueva Ecija Convention Center for the pageant’s Long Gown Competition last Saturday night. Each one of them tried to outshine the rest with the formal attires worn. But at the end of the event, Glennifer Perido was the girl picked as Best in Long Gown.

In the same pre-pageant activity, Pauline Edralin was also named Miss Friendship. And as expected, host delegate Jackielyn Dulay was crowned the special title of Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism Nueva Ecija.

My Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 Forecast

image
mutya20141 This has got to be one of the more impressive batches of Mutya ng Pilipinas in recent memory. As the saying goes, there are no slim pickings here. At least half of them will be practically wasted if only one crown will be contested come Friday night. But then again, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the organizers will make a surprise announcement for a new pageant franchise so that two ladies will at least represent the country abroad. As far as the Mutya-Overseas Communities title is concerned, I have never really looked at it as hotly-contested since only less than 1/4 of the candidates can vie for the same.

So with all preliminaries/pre-judging now over, let me present to you first my Top 10 Prediction.

There is no doubt in my mind that roommates Mutya ng Milan Patrizia Bosco and Mutya ng Cordilleras Glennifer Perido are the ladies to beat. They are this year’s “the-crown-is-theirs-to-lose” category fillers. And only if they allow the 28 others to upend their bids will the final results reveal any other names inside the envelope. I know that the next four picks in my forecast are strong enough to cause an upset, but let’s see how the two leading favorites will translate their popularity to formal victory.

image

My Fearless Top 10 Forecast

Now, trimming down the ten ladies above to just five is not extraordinarily hard to accomplish. The only thing that gave me some sense of difficulty is who to give the 5th slot to. I was teetering between Mutya ng Tagbilaran City Dorina Losenada Doerr and Mutya ng Olongapo City Cristine Racel. It is my belief, though, that the former has made bigger strides of late and has gradually outlasted the former, albeit marginally. Mutya ng Iloilo City Froilene Villanueva and Mutya ng Cebu City Eva Psychee Patalinjug are safely tucked in 3rd and 4th so far, imo.

Note: By now, I have decided to give up on Jackielyn Dulay making the final cut since she was already given the Mutya Tourism-Nueva Ecija special crown earlier. But if the judges and organizers decide to favor her even more, then chances are my selections below will be altered to accommodate her inclusion. I’m just not sure who will be sacrificed.

image

Patrizia is my pick to win, but methinks Glennifer or Froilene will give her a hard time and might possibly get past the Fil-Italian if the final Q&A is the ultimate test. Heck, even Eva and Dorina are possible scene-stealers at this point.

With only a quintet left in my scoresheet, I would give the title of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 to either Patrizia Bosco or Glennifer Perido in a heartbeat. I feel that any of the two can make a wonderful job of representing us in Miss Tourism International come New Year’s Eve. But hey, if one can be sent to another competition abroad (like, for example, the likes of Miss Italia nel Mondo or Top Model of the World), then things would fall in the right places.

But beware, I am not closing my doors on Froilene Villanueva just yet. She could be the strongest spoiler. If she officially makes the magic circle of 5, then expect a shuffling in placement the minute she gives out an impressive reply in the Q&A.

image

Not only are Froilene (24), Patrizia (25) and Glennifer (26) numbered consecutively. They also happen to be my Top 3 for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 (Photo credit: Melvin Sia for OPMB Worldwide)

All I can say in closing now is…”Good luck, ladies! :-D

The Four Faces of the Filipina in Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014

image
mutya20141 On this, the penultimate day of coronation for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014, let us take a look at the four different faces of the Pinay among the candidates. I took the liberty of selecting Mutya ng Milan Patrizia Bosco as the foreign-bred Mestiza, Mutya ng Cordilleras Glennifer Perido as the homegrown Filipina, Mutya ng Olongapo City Cristine Racel as the homegrown Mestiza and Mutya ng Canada Bea Andrada as the foreign-bred Filipina.

For a pageant blogger and analyst like myself, I don’t really give much weight on such divisive classifications. For as long as a particular contender is most deserving of a victory, it really doesn’t matter to me if she has been raised here or abroad. In the same light, I don’t have any reservations with the mixed-race beauties. This is a beauty contest. So my objective is always to find the best winner.

image

But for those who would rather favor 100% Pinays, do you mind it if they were born and reared in another country by both Filipino parents? And for those who have no qualms about a stunner with half-and-half origins, do you mind it if they possess more knowledge of the culture they grew up in but keen on absorbing as much knowledge of her previously-neglected roots?

Let’s hear your side on the matter. ;-)

mutya20141 At the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort & Casino, the winners of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 were proclaimed in a glittering night of beauty and pageantry. From among the thirty (30) Official Candidates vying for the crown, Eva Psychee Patalinjug of Cebu City was adjudged Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014, while Glennifer Perido of the Cordilleras was named Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014. The 3rd titleholder is Patrizia Bosco of Milan who was elected Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities 2014. Cristine Racel of Olongapo City got 1st Runner-up, with Kim Fyfe of Australia completing the winning circle as 2nd Runner-up.

Glennifer will now go for a back-to-back-to-back victory in Miss Tourism International 2014, while Eva – the night’s most awarded candidate – still has an unconfirmed pageant assignment. Patrizia may or may not be fielded by the organizers so it hopefully depends on negotiations with new franchises they may plan to acquire.

The five remaining ladies who reached the Top 10 are Dorina Losenada Doerr of Tagbilaran, Christina De Vries of Toronto, Alexandra Faith Garcia of Zambales, Pauline Edralin of Melbourne and Jackielyn Dulay of Nueva Ecija.

Angeli Dione Gomez (right) passing the responsibility to her successor, Glennifer (Photo credit: OPMB Worldwide)

Newly-crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido has one of the toughest overseas pageant missions for a national winner. In fact, I can’t remember a time when one of our previous representatives in any competition has ever prepared for a possible back-to-back-to-back victory. And it will all happen this coming December 31, 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia if the prospects of achieving such a rare feat is written in the stars for this beautiful woman from the Cordilleras. It will also be a challenge of sorts for the organizers of Miss Tourism International if they are willing to set precedent for such a record*.

I’d like to believe that Glennifer will definitely shine in KL with her beautiful face and glowing personality. So it’s all a matter of fate if she will follow the trail started by Rizzini Alexis Gomez in 2012 and followed by Angeli Dione Gomez last year.

What are your thoughts on her chances, dear readers? :-)

*- While the Miss Asia ATV Pageant has already produced back-to-back-to-back victories for a Chinese candidate, having more than one rep from China every year does not qualify the contest for a genuine three-peat title win in the international one-delegate-per-country level.

(L-R): 2nd Runner-up Kim Fyfe, Mutya Overseas Communities Patrizia Bosco, Mutya Asia-Pacific International Eva Patalinjug, Mutya Tourism International Glennifer Perido and 1st Runner-up Cristine Racel in Lapu-Lapu City

image The winners of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 must be following a hectic schedule of late, but nothing that would compare to their back-breaking daily grind before making it to the magic circle during the finals. They call it personal appearances. I call it a tour of duty that adds more meaning to their reign.

From what started as photoshoots in Puerto Princesa’s Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa, the five ladies moved on to the Queen City of the South where they made courtesy calls to the officials of Lapu-Lapu, Cebu and Mandaue Cities to an outreach program with the orphaned children at the Asilo dela Milagrosa to sponsor visits at Titay’s. A tour of the city’s churches also followed. They also went to Negros Occidental where the waters of Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia welcomed them with a splash. From there, they moved on to the Ruins in Bacolod City, with pit stops at the PNP (Philippine National Police) Region 7 Headquarters.

It appears that the organizers are really making it their while as the current titleholders, while maximizing their exposure around the country. I hope they head to other key cities in Luzon and Mindanao very soon. :-)

glennifer21 While we’re busy checking on the progress of Bianca Guidotti, Jamie Herrell, Kris Tiffany Janson, Yvethe Santiago, Valerie Weigmann and MJ Lastimosa, let’s not forget that there’s one more girl who’s going for a far more unenviable pageant assignment abroad. Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido is competing in Miss Tourism International 2014 in Kuala Lumpur come December 31. Apart from looking at an almost impossible back-to-back-to-back win in the competition, she will need to console herself with the possible accomplishment in place of spending Christmas and New Year away from home.

But Glennifer knows fully well what she signed up for, and she is unfazed by the challenge. She is inspired by hashtags #ForThePhilippines and #backtobacktobackwin and won’t stop at anything to insure that her preparations are on the right track.

Just keep the focus, girl. We’re right here to support your bid. ;-)

Miss Tourism International 2014/2015 will officially welcome its candidates by mid-December

image

Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido is peaking at just the right moment

Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido knows fully well that she has an ultra-tough challenge ahead as she prepares to finalize her wardrobe for Miss Tourism International 2014/15. And the pressure is something that would bog down a pageant newbie, let alone an individual who is not prepared to take in the back-to-back-to-back mission.

image But not Glennifer. She is ready. And instead of letting the two previous consecutive wins of the Philippines in the pageant take a toll on her poise and all, she’d rather look at how she can be the best version of herself in Kuala Lumpur for the competition. Add to that an underlying psy-war of sorts to combat the inflow of anxiety. She knows that there is no longer a target on her back because the other candidates will automatically assume that it would be impossible for the same country to score another top victory because that would be stretching generosity to levels of excess. And that is where our rep will come from. She’ll do her thing without anybody breathing down her neck. And if she stands out with her performance, then well and good.

A back-to-back-to-back is almost unimaginable. But not totally out of this world. If Glennifer has it in her fate to be the successor of Miss Tourism International 2013/ 14 Angeli Dione Gomez, then it will happen. ;-)

Eva and Glennifer are 100% ready!

Yesterday at the Sequoia Hotel in Quezon City, the twin send-offs for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 winners Eva Patalinjug and Glennifer Perido took place and with excitement for their upcoming pageant participations.

First to depart is Glennifer who will compete in Miss Tourism International 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on New Year’s Eve. And by early January, Eva will be leaving for Qingdao, China to represent the country in the Top Model of the World 2015.

I am optimistic about the two beauties, but moreso with Eva whose type of beauty will surely be head-turning in the host Chinese city. Glennifer is aiming for a tough back-to-back-to-back win in KL. Not the easiest assignment, but something that will challenge her to do well even more.

Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido will start conquering Kuala Lumpur today!

She should have left two days earlier, but had to take a delay because of Typhoon Ruby.

Today, Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014 Glennifer Perido finally boarded the flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to start her bid for a back-to-back-to-back win in Miss Tourism International 2014 happening on the night of December 31. She remains optimistic that the reigning titleholder (Angeli Dione Gomez) will crown her as successor. And at this point, she is doing away with all the negative vibes and focusing on the task at hand.

You can definitely trace the happiness in the face of Miss Philippines Glennifer Perido as she started her quest to represent the country in Miss Tourism International 2014/15 and hopefully make a strong presence to spice up her way to a dream-filled back-to-back-to-back victory in the competition.

At the moment, the candidates are doing daily tours and sponsor visits in Kuala Lumpur. The toughest parts of the pre-pageant are still to come. But our bet is always up on her toes and ready to shine when the situations calls for her to do so.

Bonding with the girls

A relatively easy Tuesday with Miss World 2014 now completed. So it’s time to focus on one more girl bannering the country abroad this time of the year.

Miss Philippines Glennifer Perido has been traveling out-of-town around Ipoh, Malaysia for Miss Tourism International 2014/15. Next to her pet dogs (she has at least three, I think), she loves the discovery of new sights and places that will add up to her life experiences and broaden her knowledge of other cultures. What’s more, she got the chance to be roommate with half-Filipina Miss USA who enjoys her company so much.

Let’s see what the next couple of days have in store for Glen. By the way, the ladies are now back in the Malaysian capital, as evidenced by her latest selfie below with the Petronas Twin Towers in the background.

glennifer1 There has never been a more opportune moment for Miss Philippines Glennifer Perido to bask in her natural glow than now. In the ongoing pre-pageant activities for Miss Tourism International 2014/15, our representative has always projected her best (and most beautiful) self. And only a totally unmindful observer will overlook her presence, if I may add.

Now, if you or your friends and relatives plan on spending New Year’s Eve in the Malaysian capital, then watching the finals live (and adding up to the audience cheer support of Glennifer) should be an added treat. Aside from the dinner and the show, the countdown should make it all more celebratory regardless of the results of the competition. Refer to the image below for details.

Miss Philippines Glennifer Perido is maximizing her time in Malaysia. Aside from out-of-town trips, she has really fluorished in activities conducted in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. And in between, she has managed to make a lot of friends among the candidates and chaperones alike. In fact, even if my sources say that the stronger contestants are keeping an eagle eye on her, she really doesn’t mind at all. She is more focused on doing her own thing and not be sidelined by small intrigues that will not help her performance in any way.

And I’m actually liking her current attitude about the competition. If Miss Tourism International 2014/15 has something grand in store for her, then thank you very much. Otherwise, she is ready for any eventuality and will not be defeated by negativity in any way.

glen31 It’s already a given that when a candidate participates in the Kuala Lumpur edition of Miss Tourism International, she should be ready to give up spending Christmas with loved ones. After all, the coronation night is always scheduled on New Year’s Eve and pre-pageant activities eat up two weeks prior.

In the case of Miss Philippines Glennifer Perido, she has already readied herself for enjoying the 25th of December with her fellow candidates. Anyways, she can look forward to having her family members and friends around during the December 31 finals. She is duty-bound as Mutya ng Pilipinas and the representative of the Philippines. And she is more concentrated on her mission, save for a string of online greetings to everyone.

Merry Christmas, Glen! ;-)
